Gi-hun is not a great person but he actually is more innocent than most there, so the message around him still makes sense.I do not mean to say that the series should go a different path than it was, since it is insulting the premise and the intention that the program wanted to reach. And saying so is, I feel, validating Sang-woo's own warped perception of reality, the one he uses to justify himself and his actions and make them look like the natural and sound alternative. He never did something even close to these guys. Gi-hun is not a perfectly good character in any way or form, but I think it's really absurd to elevate his hypocrisy that much or even put him in the same foot as, say, Sang-woo or the doctor or the gangster guy. Gi-hun is not a great person but he actually is more innocent than most there, so the message around him still makes sense. So yes, the message "I am not going to earn the money at the cost of the lives of others" is left intact here, specially when Sang-woo rejected, he won and he spent one entire year not even daring to touch his money. Had Sang-woo just said "yes", both would have left without any money, alive. He tried to stop the game when he had already basically won it. The episode when they return to their real lives exists to make us feel that they really don't have an alternative, and in the case of Gi-hun, his situation is certainly not less desperate than the others. Including some characters that are cut a lot more slack than him and are equally morally responsible and reprehensible. and so did 93% of the original survivors in the first round. He looked a lot more scared and panicked than concerned about the idea of winning the prize. And he wasn't certainly thinking of the money but just desperate for surviving. and he was crying and feeling guilty over it all the time. The marbles game showed that he could be a cunning person.

I have to check out what else the creative director has worked on, because the set design and atmosphere were amazing. What was left was pretty much just your standard death game/murder elimination affair with shallow side characters and a predictable plot. I feel like if they had put less focus on the cop's side of the story, the show would at least have had enough runtime left to be an interesting character study. Most of the other characters felt really shallow, and the fact we got each character's backstory right as they were about to die just added to the show's predictability imo. I really enjoyed the lengths they went to in the first two episodes to develop the main characters and show their backstories, but after that, the psychological component of the show really fell off and the cracks in the story began to show. I thought the show was interesting, although the further I got into it, the more I wished it was a bit more complex. Thread moved from Casual Discussion to Music & Entertainment. Squid Game missed it completely with the suspense Kaiji had to brainpower his way to survival and it was extremely thrilling experience for the viewer.

Our main character's survival in the game just seemed full of plot conveniences, sure you can say he was lucky and had good karma, but comparing this show to Kaiji it's day and night difference. of course conveniently the 3 major characters were last in the order and the guy ahead of them could tell apart the glass platforms.

I thought it was weird they used the word "equality" and that everyone should have same chances of winning the glass bridge game was dumb and completely RNG. I know people loved her, but the marbles game would've left a bigger impact if they had introduced Ji-yeong way earlier. Ji-yeong's story in the marbles game came out of nowhere, like how do you kill off a character in that fashion when she was just introduced. They seemed like cartoon villains, then again I don't know if filthy rich people actually act like that Acting overall was good, apart from the VIP crew. I didn't really like the characters, Sang Woo seemed most interested but in the end we didn't really get to know him despite being one of the more important characters.
